This four-day route focuses on two regions rather than trying to cover too much ground. Danyang's rock formations and river scenery lead into Cheongsong's reservoir and canyon landscapes. Autumn adds colour and changing surface conditions, while three hanok nights keep the accommodation consistent with the rural setting.
From Seoul to Danyang
Day 1 travels east from Seoul by private vehicle. River valleys and pale limestone formations mark the change in landscape on the way to Danyang. Departure time is set around the confirmed vehicle, the Seoul pick-up point and the daylight required for Dodamsambong and the first hanok check-in. Lunch is taken on the road.
Dodamsambong Above the River
Dodamsambong provides the first main landscape stop: three rock peaks rising from the Namhangang River. Travellers view the formation from the riverbank, where water level, light and surrounding foliage change the scene from one departure to another. The stop involves observation rather than strenuous walking, helping keep the arrival day suitable for mixed-age groups after the drive from Seoul.
First Night in a Village Hanok
The first hanok stay shifts the pace from sightseeing to an overnight in a village setting. Shoes come off at the threshold, while timber interiors, paper doors and village sounds distinguish the stay from a standard hotel. It also gives travellers time in Danyang beyond its viewpoints, in a village rather than a transit town. Property names, room layouts, bathroom arrangements and other operating details are confirmed before sale rather than generalised across every hanok.
Sainam and the Journey East
Day 2 begins at Sainam, where the vertical rock face, inscribed stone and shallow stream continue the geology-and-water theme without repeating Dodamsambong. Travellers can compare rock seen across a broad river with rock encountered at close range beside moving water. After the morning visit and a local lunch, the programme continues east by private vehicle from Chungcheong into the Gyeongsang uplands.
Two Nights in Cheongsong
Travellers stay two nights in Cheongsong so Jusanji can be visited before sunrise without a long pre-dawn transfer from another region. Keeping the same accommodation after the longer valley walk also avoids another check-in, allowing the afternoon to remain open.
Jusanji Before Sunrise
Day 3 begins before sunrise. The return walk from the car park takes about one hour on a wide, gentle forest path suitable for children and older travellers. The start time follows the temperature difference that can produce mist over the water. Mist remains weather-dependent; drowned willow trunks, reflections and the changing first light remain visible when the air is clear.
Juwangsan's Canyon Trail
The morning continues in Juwangsan along the level canyon floor between three waterfalls. The walk is about 5 km each way and takes 3.5–4 hours return. Parts are barrier-free; only the hermitage approach has stepped sections. No summit is involved. After returning to Cheongsong, the afternoon remains free. Day 4 continues to Andong or Seoul by private vehicle.
